Alexander Dimitrov

Alexander is a commercial lawyer, specialising in technology, data protection and digital media, with particular emphasis on intersection of those areas with the sports sector.

His practice focuses of non-contentious technology projects, commercial contracts and advising on data protection compliance. Coming from a Computer Science background, Alexander is very comfortable in working with complex technology concepts, promoting the efficiency and quality of the legal solutions he provides to clients within the tech sector. Alexander also has significant experience in data protection litigation and cyber breach response, having worked at the firm’s cyber risk team for over 4 years.

Alexander’s recent experience includes:

  • Advising a major multinational hospitality chain on their sponsorship contract arrangements with a leading Formula 1 team;
  • Managing the Intellectual Property portfolio of a popular cryptocurrency with a wide social following;
  • Preparing several complex Data Protection Impact Assessments for one of the UK’s largest insurance companies;
  • Negotiating on behalf of a global consumer goods company client, sponsorship agreements with the English Football League and the Rugby Football Union;
  • Assisting a national sports sector organisation with the incident breach response following a suspected state-sponsored cyber attack, involving a number of elite athletes.

Alexander operates his sports law-focused website – thesportslawyer.net – where he discusses interesting developments in the world of football and motorsport. His articles have been published in the prestigious Licencing Journal and PLC Magazine. Alexander is an active member of LawInSport – the world’s largest sports law expert community.

Outside of work, Alexander is an amateur karting pilot and an elite volleyball referee, with his career highlight being officiating at the 2018 Men’s World Championship.
