John Goodman - DAC Beachcroft
John Goodman

John qualified in 1992 and became a partner in 2000 at Barlow Lyde & Gilbert which merged with Clyde & Co LLP in 2011. He joined DAC Beachcroft on 1 March 2017 and is Head of Public Sector. He has 26 years' experience defending employer and public liability claims and RTA cases, on behalf of public sector clients.

John and his team receive a substantial flow of Catastrophic injury cases involving complex liability issues for local authorities, housing associations and other insured public and private sector bodies as well as catastrophic injury quantum issues.

John also acts for a wide range of other clients including the BBC, Gallagher Bassett, AmTrust, and JLT and receives direct instructions from local authorities and other public sector bodies.

As well securing discontinuances in large value cases by taking a robust approach to liability, John has experience of successfully taking cases to the appellate Courts, such as Goad v Butcher, 2011, in which the Court of Appeal gave useful guidance as to the applicability of the Highway Code.

He is also closely involved in the Association of Local Authority Risk Managers, providing talks, workshops at their events and writing articles for its journal, Public RM. He also regularly delivers training to clients on topics ranging from liability updates to the latest developments in quantum.
