    Ieuan specialises in credit hire, providing strategic and technical advices to the insurance industry on varied approaches to credit hire litigation. 

    He is regularly instructed on high value credit hire matters in excess of £100,000 and specialises in loss of profit claims, issues of bailment and appeals at all levels of the courts.

    Ieuan manages the Strategic and Technical Vehicle Hire & Damage team which brings an innovative approach to arguing credit hire claims alongside expert claims handling of complex matters.

    Ieuan represents a varied group of clients; from large multi-line insurers through to third sector corporate or commercial self-insureds in matters of liability, hire, injury and other associated losses. He also has extensive experience dealing with HGV claims.

    Ieuan regularly speaks at client events and delivers varied training to insurers. In addition, he regularly writes and contributes to articles on prevalent issues within the industry.

    Notable cases include:

    • Lorna Armstead v Royal and Sun Alliance [2022] EWCA Civ 497

    A decision by the Court of Appeal on whether a contractual indemnity contained within a credit hire contract was recoverable in law against a negligent third party. Dealing with issues of bailment, principles of negligence and pure economic loss.

    • Mr Khalil Yousaf v Miss Samantha Davis [2022] (TBC)

    An appeal to the Court of Appeal on the standard of evidence required in claims that have proceeded through the MOJ portal under ‘the RTA Protocol’.

    • Baker v Hayward (2022), HHJ Walden-Smith, Norwich County Court

    A first instance appeal on the standard of evidence required to prove the first exception, set out in Hussain v EUI Ltd [2019] EWHC 2647 (QB), to the rule that drivers of profit earning chattels are only entitled to the lesser of loss of profits or the cost of a replacement hire vehicle.
