David is a barrister in our specialist advocacy service, 8 DAC Beachcroft Buildings (8DB). He has nearly 15 years of experience in these sectors, advising clients from both a claimant and defendant perspective.

David has taken instructions from some of the country’s leading motor, home and public liability insurers including the AA, Aviva, LV, Markerstudy, NFU Mutual, and RSA.

Having worked both in house and in external chambers, and for solicitors specialising in both claimant and defendant work, David’s experience enables him to give well-rounded, practical advice.

David’s practice covers the fast, intermediate, and multi tracks, having been instructed in trials and JSMs valued at up to £2.5million and in interlocutory hearings worth up to £30million. He has extensive experience in all aspects of liability and quantum assessment and is often seen as a go-to expert on aspects of civil procedure, having achieved notable successes on applications and at appeals.

David has appeared before a variety of courts and tribunals including the Court of Appeal, High Court and County Court. He is regularly instructed in trials, applications, CMCs and CCMCs, and appeals. He drafts statements of case, Part 35 and Part 18 questions, and advises on liability and quantum, both in conference and as standalone advice.

David is also responsible for the training of 8DB’s practitioners. He has developed and provided training on numerous subjects to lawyers and insurers, and has appeared as a panel and guest speaker at a variety of conferences.

He is a member of the Personal Injury Bar Association (PIBA) and the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.

    Featured experience:

    • A v O and H (2025) – David secured the striking out of a £200,000+ claim for lifelong spinal injuries on the grounds of defective service and issue estoppel. David appeared at the first instance hearing, and on appeal before Mr Justice Lavender where the claimant's permission to appeal application was refused.
    • Holland v Zurich Insurance UK Ltd (HHJ Wood KC, Liverpool County Court, 15 May 2025) - David acted for the successful defendant in this landmark authority concerning the application of the newly introduced intermediate track.
    • K v M (2023) - David acted for the defendant throughout the defence of a £70,000+ claim on the grounds of fraudulent misrepresentation. At a 2-day trial the court concluded the claimant had acted fraudulently, leading the defendant to succeed in its counterclaim for (among other things) exemplary damages.
    • London Borough of Islington v Bourous (and another) [2022] EWCA Civ 1242 (led by Jamie Carpenter KC) - David appeared for one of two defendants in a joined appeal concerning the operation of the low-value personal injury protocols and the management of credit hire claims.
    • Diriye v Bojaj [2020] EWCA Civ 1400 – David appeared at the Court of Appeal as sole counsel on behalf of the successful respondent in this seminal credit hire authority.
    • D v J and S (2020) – defended a chain of pubs in a 2-day split liability trial in respect of a claimant who was employed as a bouncer and sustained injury when assaulted by customers.
    • Brownsell v Ogden (2019) (Lawtel: Doc No AM0505445) – David represented the claimant in this complex personal injury claim. The claimant was a pre-accident amputee who suffered additional injury to his prosthesis following a road traffic accident, impacting his ability to work as a stuntman.
    • Re: John Schoenemann (2018) – David represented the Auto Cycle Union in a 2-day inquest following the death of a motorbike racer. The coroner recorded an accidental death conclusion and the inquest received media coverage
