Rhian Greaves

Rhian specialises in corporate criminal defence, particularly in the fields of health, safety and environmental work.  She has over 17 years’ experience advising clients across a range of sectors including manufacturing, construction, waste and recycling, utilities and retail.

Rhian’s work encompasses corporate manslaughter, gross negligence manslaughter, the full range of health and safety offences, environmental prosecutions with a particular focus on waste and water matters, food safety and hygiene breaches, product safety issues and contraventions of fire safety law.  She has represented clients investigated and prosecuted by the Police and the Crown Prosecution Service, the Health and Safety Executive, the Environment Agency, Local Authorities and the Fire and Rescue Services. 

Rhian has been involved in numerous significant cases, including representing a defendant company in the prosecution arising from the Buncefield incident; the largest explosion in peacetime Europe which culminated in a trial described by the Guardian as “one of the most complex corporate criminal trials of its type”. 

She has represented clients at interviews under caution and also in the Magistrates’, Crown and Coroner’s Courts and has taken cases to the Court of Appeal. 

Rhian’s practice also includes devising and delivering bespoke training products for clients, together with advising them as to their regulatory impacts at a strategic level.  In this respect, she has trained and advised Directors and senior personnel from leading FTSE100 and FTSE250 companies as well as household name manufacturing, retail, facilities management and food businesses.

Rhian is listed as a leading individual by Chambers & Partners, which describes her as “a highly capable, committed and commercially astute lawyer”.  She is also recognised as a Next Generation Partner by Legal 500.

Rhian is a regular contributor to leading industry publications including IOSH Magazine, the NEBOSH Alumni Newsletter and Environmental Health News.  She is regularly invited to comment on developments within her specialist area and has participated in a number of webinars and podcast recordings with external publications.  She is also an active member of the Health and Safety Lawyers Association.
