There have been fewer case developments over the summer, but there is still a number of developments to update you on this month.

We hope that over the summer you’ve received the invite to our national employment law seminar series taking place this autumn. If you missed it please clickhere.

1. Tribunal procedure: Merits of a case can be considered when assessing just and equitable extensions of time

The EAT has held that an employment tribunal was entitled to consider the merits of a claim when deciding whether it should grant an extension of time.

2. Political beliefs: No automatic unfair dismissal, but belief in participatory democracy protected

The EAT has considered the unfair dismissal and discrimination rights of an employee who claimed she had been dismissed for requesting permission to stand as a political candidate.

3. Anonymity order: Anonymity order awarded to protect the identity of a woman about whom a claimant had made lurid allegations

The EAT has made an indefinite anonymity order to protect the identity of a young woman about whom a claimant had made lurid allegations although she was neither a party to tribunal proceedings nor a witness.
