  • Biography

    Harriet specialises in construction disputes and assists clients in all forms of dispute resolution, including adjudication, mediation and litigation. 

    Harriet regularly acts for employers, developers, main-contractors and sub-contractors in various matters in relation to the construction and management of residential and commercial schemes, leisure and retail facilities, as well as groundworks, utilities, roads and infrastructure. She also acts for Insurers defending disputes against construction professionals including engineers, architects and designers.

    Recently Harriet has specialised in disputes arising under the Building Safety Act 2022, advising clients in this novel area of law, particularly in relation to Remediation Orders, Remediation Contribution Orders and other routes to recovery.

    Relevant experience:

    • Acting for an institutional investor in relation to a number of applications for s.123 Remediation Orders, obtaining judicial opinion on the operation of s.123 of the Building Safety Act 2022 from the Tribunal.  
    • Acting for Insurers in a claim against the insured engineers for alleged failings in design and project management under a NEC3 ECC contract. The dispute settled successfully shortly before trial.
    • Acting for a specialist telecommunications contractor in relation to a number of NEC3 Subcontracts across a prestigious rail project.
    • Acting for a hospital in relation to a supply of services contract addressing the contractor’s various breaches of contract and advising on a claim for damages.
    • Acting for a JV advising on the validity of specific compensation events issued by the contractor and the effect of Covid-19 under a NEC3 ECC contract.
    • Acting for a Main Contractor in a final account dispute in relation to renovation and refurbishment works at a livery company HQ. The dispute involved court proceedings and an adjudication running in parallel.

    Harriet is a member of the Society of Construction Law. She also edits and writes for our regular Construction Risks Newsletter.
