    Katie is a Barrister in our specialist advocacy service, 8 DAC Beachcroft Buildings (8DB). Katie specialises in general civil litigation, personal injury, clinical negligence and employment law.

    She has over 7 years’ experience advising clients across a range of sectors including local/public  authorities, transport, utilities, retail, manufacturing, healthcare and insurance. She routinely appears in both the County Court and High Court.

    Katie is able to assist and advise on matters throughout the litigation process and is often instructed cradle to grave. A substantial aspect of Katie’s practice areas are personal injury and clinical negligence. She acts in both fast track and multi-track cases in all areas of personal injury, including employers’ liability, public liability, occupiers’ liability and road traffic cases (including motorbike, pedal bike and pedestrian cases). Katie also has experience dealing with Animals Act, Highways Act, product liability, and fatal accident claims. She has experience in cross jurisdictional claims (mainly Spanish and Cypriot to date) and hopes to expand her practice in this area. 

    Katie also has an established property practice covering all aspects of property damage however so caused. Katie has specific experience dealing with highways claims and cavity wall insulation. Katie also acts in recovery matters. 

    Her multidiscipline practice means she is experienced in all aspects of civil procedure in particular cost budgeting. 

    Katie has a developing employment practice with a particular interest in discrimination law.

    Relevant experience / notable cases includes advising:

    • M v L - Katie successfully defended a claim at trial where a Claimant was struck by a car park barrier.
    • M v P - Katie successfully made an application to strike out a £500,000 claim brought against catering company after a slip/trip at work.
    • L v W - acting for the one of the defendants following an accident on a construction site where the claimant sustained a significant crush injury to the foot. Attended numerous interlocutory hearings including an application to amend the value of the claim from £25,000 to in excess of £800,000. Successfully argued the increase was an abuse of process that should sound in costs. The claim was eventually discontinued against the her client.
    • P v F – instructed to represent the Defendant on an impact property damage claim where the Defendant raised an automatism defence.
    • L v S – Katie was instructed in an escape of water claim where the Claimant attempted to bring a personal injury claim. The Claimant withdrew the personal injury aspect of the claim and was ordered to amend the particulars to clarify the cause of action. Katie was kept on instruction to draft the amended defence and advise as appropriate.
    • W v D and G – instructed to attend multiple interlocutory hearings and drafted a strike application in a cavity wall insulation case where there had been defective assignment. The Claimant discontinued the claim ahead of the application hearing.
