Sarah George is the legal director in our employment team in the North East. Sarah has advised both public and private sector clients, including Local Authorities, NHS Bodies and Arms Length Bodies as well as the construction industry, international petrochemical and pharmaceutical manufacturers and PLCs.
She specialises in advising on executive terminations, board level disputes and the employment implications of TUPE in transactions including mergers and acquisitions, partnership agreements, service reconfiguration and the related employment implications of procurement and commissioning.
Her contentious experience is as the lead adviser in high-profile and high-value employment tribunal claims, specialising in technically complex cases some of which have involved injunction applications in the High Court and proceedings in the Court of Appeal.
Sarah's experience includes:
advising a public sector organisation on the handling of a Board level dispute during a period of scrutiny of the organisation by its regulators
advising a consortium of local authorities and housing providers in relation to TUPE provisions in a suite of contracts for members contracting for services
successfully defending a complex whistleblowing claim regarding issues of health and safety critical to the organisations reputation, and where the large volume of evidence and a lengthy hearing was out of all proportion to the financial value of the claim
advising a consortium of NHS organisations on a collaboration to provide regional service delivery, including collective workforce issues, consultation and advice on pre and post-merger restructuring and reorganisation
advising and representing an NHS Trust in connection with a novel and complex disciplinary issue in both the internal and the subsequent High Court and Court of Appeal proceedings
Also, Sarah regularly delivers off the shelf and bespoke training to a variety of organisations, on employment matters, and to both HR representatives and to senior and executive management teams.
Sarah is also regular contributor of practical legal commentary to HR publications.
