Gillian has extensive healthcare litigation experience, with over 29 years of experience in clinical negligence claims. She worked for claimants and their families for over 17 years, before moving into defendant work 12 years ago.

Gillian mainly deals with high-value brain injury cases, often involving injuries sustained at or around the time of birth. She has extensive experience in mediations which frequently result in early settlements with substantial cost savings for all parties. 

She also supports NHS trusts in undertaking investigations and in improving patient safety. She also regularly provides training in all aspects of litigation and the inquest process.

Featured experience:

• Managing the settlement of a high-value brain injury case where there were early admissions of liability. The child suffered extensive brain injuries and will require full time care and assistance for the rest of their life. 

• Handling the inquest and subsequent claim by the family of a woman who died shortly after giving birth to her fourth child 

• Advising on a complex multi-defendant case involving brain injury to a child in the neonatal period 

• Wrongful birth claim in which is it alleged there were errors in the 20-week scan, and the mother would have terminated the pregnancy had the issues been identified. The child was born with Down’s syndrome. 

• Shoulder dystocia claim, in which liability settlement has been agreed but position made more complex because the Claimant was subsequently involved in an RTA and suffered a serious brain injury 

• Lower limb amputation claim involving alleged delay in diagnosis and treatment of sepsis
