Biography
Garreth has over 12 years’ experience advising clients across a range of sectors. Having been called to the Bar in Ireland in 2007, Garreth's practice there included accepting instructions in the areas of criminal law, personal injury, family law, employment, and general civil law. Garreth acted for both claimants and defendants. His personal injury practice included high value cases litigated in the High Court, with regular instructions from loss adjustors and insurers, e.g. Aviva and AXA.
Upon moving to England, Garreth worked at several other law firms before joining DACB. The work he undertook included handling files while waiting for his call to the Bar. For four years, he specifically worked on the fraud team at a national law firm and only dealt with files involving allegations of fundamental dishonesty and/or fraud. He also gained experience in property claims, in particular, cavity wall insulation claims, and has received countless instructions to review and advise on coverage in insurance policies.
Since being called to the Bar of England & Wales in 2018, Garreth has appeared in Courts of all levels on interim and final hearings including fast track and multi-track cases. Garreth is skilled and confident in representing a client's best interests. He has also gained experience in appeals. In almost every contested personal injury trial Garreth has been instructed on, causation was in issue and fundamental dishonesty and/or fraud was alleged or argued. He is extremely aware of the necessary arguments required in such cases. Garreth has a wealth of experience in the strategies employed by claimant firms. He is tactically astute and can provide pragmatic focused advice, on both prospects and quantum.
From drafting statements of case to attending CMCs/CCMCs, interim applications and final hearings, Garreth is skilled and confident in representing a client's best interests and achieving desired results.
Garreth is a member of the Honourable Society of Kings Inns (Dublin), the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn, and PIBA. He is regulated by the Bar Standards Board (BSB) and holds a current practising certificate.
Garreth's relevant cases include:
- Q v H (2024, Birmingham County Court) – Acting for the defendant in a RTA personal injury claim, where Garreth secured a finding of fundamental dishonesty and an order for the claimant to pay £6,600 in costs.
- P & A v S – Acting for the claimants who owned adjoining damaged properties in a property recovery claim valued at nearly £200k involving a gas explosion in a residential property (October 2018). Despite much resistance by S as to fault, and impending limitation, Garreth assisted in securing a settlement for over 60% of the claim value plus costs (August 2025).
