Independent Health

Independent healthcare providers operate in a complex and evolving environment. Drawing on our deep sector knowledge, we help clients navigate complex legal challenges, grow their businesses, and deliver high-quality patient care.

Overview

We act for the largest independent health operators and understand the challenges they face, from structural changes and the consolidation of providers to CQC scrutiny of patient care.

Our experience includes assisting on a wide range of matters, including mergers and acquisitions, advising on claims and inquests, employment tribunals, leases and licenses, and outsourcing arrangements and joint ventures – including private patient units. We also advise on all aspects of CQC issues and regulation, from new provider registrations and due diligence in transactions, to factual accuracy and CQC civil and criminal enforcement.

We defend medical malpractice claims brought against some of the largest and most prestigious independent health providers, including claims relating to acute hospital care, secure mental health services, fertility, and genetic medicine. Our work also extends to cross-border litigation and representing UK clients in overseas jurisdictions.

We also provide strategic regulatory advice at board level, helping independent health providers manage their relationships with the NHS, regulators, and commissioners, to manage reputational risk.
