Richard has a well-established insurer-facing cyber and technology practice, with extensive experience spanning cyber incident response, technology disputes, and insurance coverage. 

He was among the first lawyers in the market to build a dedicated team focused on cyber incident response. Since then, he has advised on hundreds of cyber incidents, ranging from complex data-related issues to ransomware. Clients value his calm, pragmatic approach and his ability to lead effectively through high-pressure and contentious situations. 

Alongside his cyber practice, Richard has significant experience in insurance and commercial litigation. He regularly advises on complex technology disputes, including claims arising from cyber incidents, software implementation projects, and other technology failures. He also provides insurance coverage advice and represents insurers in disputes across a range of business lines, with particular expertise in cyber and technology errors and omissions risks. 

The breadth of Richard's practice enables him to provide strategic, commercially focused advice on matters that require a combination of deep cyber, technology, and litigation expertise. 

Richard's experience includes: 

• Advising on numerous high profile and challenging ransomware incidents. These have included extensive regulator involvement and sensitive notifications to large numbers of affected third parties, including data subjects and commercial counter-parties.
• Advising on the defence of a claim against a healthcare technology provider which ultimately resulted in a settlement payment to our defendant client to meet our allegations of wrongful termination of contract 
• Advising on a high-value recovery action against an IT service provider following a global cyber breach incident 
• Representing insurers in a coverage dispute arising from a US technology-related claim valued in excess of USD 100m
