Présentation
Prior to joining DACB, Simy spent 23 years at a large international law firm, where she developed extensive experience in defending professional negligence claims and advising on complex coverage issues.
She is particularly recognised for her expertise in claims against solicitors, acting on behalf of insurers and legal professionals in matters involving a number of the UK's Top 50 law firms. Her work encompasses the full spectrum of private practice, including claims arising from corporate and commercial transactions, real estate matters, and litigation.
Alongside her defence work, Simy advises on a wide range of coverage issues under professional indemnity policies. She has considerable experience in navigating complex coverage disputes, including matters involving allegations or suspicions of fraud and dishonesty.
Simy's insurer-side perspective is informed by a year-long secondment to the Professional Indemnity team at QBE Insurance (Europe) Limited, where she handled claims against a variety of professionals and advised on associated coverage issues. This secondment has given her valuable insight into insurers' strategic objectives, claims handling processes, and commercial priorities.
Known for her pragmatic and commercially focused approach, Simy provides clear, strategic advice across a broad range of professional negligence and coverage matters, helping clients achieve efficient and effective outcomes in challenging circumstances.
Featured experience:
- Advising insurers in Zurich Professional Ltd v Karim & Ors [2006] EWHC 3355 (QB), a landmark professional indemnity coverage case concerning solicitor fraud, dishonesty, and the operation of policy exclusions, resulting in a High Court ruling that the relevant claims fell outside cover
- Acting for Withers LLP in Wellesley Partners LLP v Withers LLP (2015) EWCA, a significant Court of Appeal professional negligence case concerning solicitor liability, loss of chance, and the applicable test for remoteness of damage in cases of concurrent liability in contract and tort
- Advising a boutique corporate law firm on the defence of a £50 million professional negligence claim arising from advice provided on a complex corporate transaction. Simy led the matter through extensive litigation and trial preparation, securing a highly favourable resolution for the client shortly before trial.
