Overview
Our extensive marine capability includes hull and machinery, freight, cargo and project cargo/DSU, as well as builders' risk, charterers' and ship repairers’ liability and related war and strikes, terrorism and political risk cover.
The team has broad experience in transport claims, including transport liability in relation to loss of or damage to cargo at sea or carried by road, rail or air.
Our offshore energy practice includes both offshore construction and operating risk. We understand the issues under the common builders’ risk and WELCAR construction wordings, and with operating wordings including the London standard drilling forms, the Nordic Plan (formerly the Norwegian Plan) and control of well EED 8/86.
We also advise on the full life-cycle of renewables projects including offshore and onshore wind, solar, biomass, waste and landfill gas to energy, wave and tidal, hydro generation, combined heat and power, energy saving schemes, battery energy storage systems and carbon capture and sequestration.
Featured experience
- Acting for insurers in defence of a major cargo policy claim arising from damage to various cargoes of fruit shipped from the Philippines to China. Evidential disputes as to cargo damage and alleged political rejection.
- Advising international market reinsurers in relation to a well control claim arising out of the policy wording EED 8/86, after an eruption in Tunisia.
- Acting for international reinsurers in connection with a claim for the destruction of a container terminal on the coast of southern Brazil.
