Carl’s practice includes the whole range of EL/PL claims including occupational stress and harassment. Carl is routinely instructed in high-value personal injury cases by a range of clients, and still retains a diverse case load with a particular emphasis on liability disputes maintaining an enviable record of trial wins and discontinuances.

Carl’s practice also extends into regulatory matters, acting for companies and individuals facing prosecution by the HSE or the ORR for breach of health and safety legislation, a natural accompaniment to the employers liability work Carl has undertaken for many years.

He has also undertaken work on behalf of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) in respect of insolvent insurers where the FSCS may have to step in. He has a deep knowledge of the intricacies involved in work around the requirements to obtaining FSCS protection and issues arising from that protection often being incomplete, resulting in companies and individuals having less than full insurance cover and on occasion, no cover at all.

Carl has also conducted in-house training for clients in his areas of expertise and has written a number of published articles over the years, the most recent being articles for Insurance Age and People Management on mental health and occupational stress claims.

Carl's relevant experience includes:

• Assisting several insurers with preparing for potential claims arising out of COVID-19, resulting in instructions to act in several such claims to date, all of which having been successfully repudiated
• Undertaking work in respect of the following insolvent insurers: Gable Insurance Ag, Berliner Versicherung Ag, Elite Insurance and ERIC
• Undertaking work on a direct instruction basis for a number of companies and individuals who have found themselves without any insurance provision given the insolvency of their insurer
