  • Biography

    Michael specialises in providing strategic advice on a range of emerging issues affecting insurers.  

    He focuses on delivering commercial solutions to industry-wide technological and claims-related matters. He advises on regulatory issues within the claims and motor sectors. 

    Michael has been at the forefront of the development of the law relating to vehicle technology since 2016. He has drafted or assisted in drafting more than 25 consultation responses focused on automated and electric vehicles, advanced driver assistance systems and micromobility.  

    He regularly speaks on these matters and provides training to insurers on matters relating to technology-related emerging risks and claims inflation. 

    He was heavily involved in the production of a groundbreaking report, in late 2025, that investigates the use of artificial intelligence within the general insurance claims sector. 

    Featured experience:

    • Acting for the ABI on behalf of the insurance industry in Hassam v Rabot [2024] UKSC 11, the case that determined how mixed injury claims within the OIC are to be calculated  
    • Being closely involved in implementing the whiplash injury reforms 
    • Assisting in defending MedCo in On Medical Ltd v MedCo Registration Solutions [2017] EWHC 3111(Ch) and R (on the application of Med Chambers and Prime Medicals) v MedCo Registration Solutions [2017] EWHC 3258 (Admin)
