Vanessa Taylor-Byrne

Vanessa is an experienced commercial litigation lawyer with a particular interest in the health sector. As well as advising on negligence claims and contractual disputes, she also specialises in defamation and managing reputational risk.

She has extensive experience of advising NHS Trusts and commissioning bodies on contractual issues, and acts for them in disputes with suppliers/trading partners, employees and clinicians. Vanessa regularly advises on contractual disputes including termination and breach. Also, she advises private sector health clients in their disputes with policyholders, patients and the NHS. 

She has experience of working with NHS Protect to recover the proceeds of fraud. Her work includes obtaining an injunction to safeguard Trust staff from a member of the public who had used/threatened unlawful violence and protecting the identity of a nurse diagnosed with HIV. 

Vanessa also works in the financial services sector. She has considerable experience of dealing with mis-selling claims, appointed representative fraud, breach of restrictive covenant and misuse of confidential information. 

She specialises in obtaining urgent injunctive relief, including gagging orders, freezing injunctions and search and seizure orders. Her recent work includes supporting a global insurance company to manage the customer response following a large-scale data loss incident, and advising on the resulting claims and FOS referrals.
