Sahar Farooqi

Sahar is a Partner in our specialist advocacy service, 8 DAC Beachcroft Buildings (8DB).

Since his call to the Bar in 2010, Sahar has amassed experience in advising clients across a range of sectors including aviation, energy, infrastructure/ projects and shareholder disputes. Sahar specialises in commercial disputes, often with an international focus.

Sahar’s expertise is in advising and representing HNWIs, privately owned companies as well as state entities facing disputes arising, typically, from breach of contract. He is particularly familiar with disputes that have a cross boarder element and in the context of International Arbitration, under multiple rules and seats including ICC, LCIA, SIAC and AIAC. In the immediate past, he led the Pakistan and Malaysia desks of an international law firm, two jurisdictions where he enjoys particularly strong local networks.

A robust and pragmatic advocate, clients cite his disarming style of cross examination and tactically sound advice.

Recent experience includes:

• An arbitration under the ICC rules seated in Singapore; the second in a series of such arbitrations pertaining to the supply of gas in Pakistan (c$300million USD);
• An arbitration under the ICC rules seated in Kuala Lumpur pertaining the delivery of local services owed to a Malaysian Airline by suppliers in Bangladesh;*
• Ad-hoc arbitration (then under the AIAC rules) in Malaysia pertaining to alleged failures to supply services to a Malaysian Airline;*
• An arbitration under the ICC rules seated in Singapore pertaining to the failure to supply services owed to a Malaysian airline;*
• An arbitration under the ICC rules seated in London concerning a dispute between a Malaysian and Pakistani airlines;
• An arbitration under the ICC rules seated in London pertaining to the supply of electricity from a private power plant in Pakistan to the local operation of a billion dollar Helsinki based energy company, and counter claims.
