Laura Wiseman

Laura specialises in advising insurers on liability, quantum and strategy in high value cases, in particular in chronic pain claims.

She has over 10 years’ experience working for insurer clients managing claims arising from road traffic accidents, employer’s liability and public liability claims. Experience includes claims due to fibromyalgia, CRPS, subtle brain injuries and spinal injuries. She has a particular interest in pain cases arising from low impact accidents. Her key clients include AXA, Ageas and Insurethebox (ITB).

Relevant experience includes advising:

• AXA on a high value chronic pain case where the Claimant’s reported symptoms were at odds with the mechanism for injury. Following helpful surveillance the claim was ultimately struck out and a finding of fundamental dishonesty against the Claimant was made. Costs were awarded to AXA on an indemnity basis.
• AXA on a claim arising from an overturned carriage during a carriage racing competition. Helpful expert evidence was obtained and the trial judge found in favour of AXA’s insured.
• ITB on a dependency claim pleaded in excess of £700,000 for an 18 year old male, due cultural expectations of ongoing financial support. Settled for 15% of the pleaded value.
