2020 Merger Control Update

In its 2020 Merger Control Update, the EU, Competition and Regulated Markets team highlight recent merger control developments in Ireland providing commentary on the key trends and on the outlook for 2021. While the number of notifications to the Irish competition regulator, the CCPC, dropped in most sectors in 2020, three sectors did not follow this trend: Healthcare, Motor Fuel and Insurance. The introduction of the Simplified Merger Notification Procedure in July 2020 is a welcome development for clients and brings Ireland in line with the majority of EU Member States currently operating an equivalent procedure.
