Challenges faced by Chile's aquaculture industry

Chile is the second largest salmon producer after Norway. Last year it exported USD$4.5bn of farmed salmon on 800,000 tonnes of shipments. Most of the farms are in ocean enclosures or estuaries.

Colombian air crash

Overnight on 28 November an RJ85 aircraft operated by LAMIA Corporation of Bolivia crashed with nine crew and 72 passengers aboard, while on route from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. The aircraft was due to land at Jose Maria Cordova airport, Medellin, Colombia, but came down in Rionegro just minutes before its expected landing. The aircraft was constructed by British Aerospace in 1999, one of 170 such aircraft manufactured up to 2002.

Mexico's new Free Zones will generate business opportunities for the London insurance market

In June 2016 Mexico enacted legislation enabling the establishment of free zones within ten of its least developed federal states ("the SEZ Scheme"). The states in question are all located in the south of the country, a region that historically has lagged behind the industrialised central and northern regions.

Latest developments in Brazil

Following Dilma Rouseff's impeachment last May, the Brazilian Congress, the Judiciary and the Executive have been embroiled in a three-way power struggle, against the background of growing tension between, on the one hand, anti-corruption legislation, and on the other the need for initiatives to reinvigorate the economy, currently experiencing a severe recession. Growth is currently forecast at just 1% for 2017, with the public deficit at 10% of GDP.
