The amount compensators are required to pay to the Compensation Recovery Unit in relation to treatment provided to injured Claimants will increase for injuries suffered on or after 1 April 2014.
The Personal Injuries (NHS Charges) (Amounts) Amendment Regulations 2014 take into account inflation, including increases in NHS pay and will see the amounts repayable increase as follows:
Accidents/Injuries up to 31/3/2014
Accidents/injuries from 1/4/2014
In-patient treatment (per day)
Ambulance journey (per journey)
Although each individual increase is not significant, the total cost to the insurance industry is estimated at £3.6m per annum, of which £2.6m will relate to road traffic accidents and £1.0m Employers Liability and Public Liability claims. Insurers will need to ensure that their reserves for accidents, which occur on or after 1 April 2014, reflect the increased level of charges.
