CQC announce changes in registration fees - April 2014

Published 3 abril 2014

Following a consultation last autumn, CQC has announced its Fees Scheme for 2014/2015 setting out the fees to be paid by every registered provider from 1 April 2014. CQC have advised that as they are changing the way they regulate services, they will only be making 'minimal changes' this year.

The key changes to the existing scheme are:

  • A 2.5% increase in annual fees for all healthcare providers. CQC have proceeded with their proposal to increase fees despite 85% of respondents to the consultation indicating that they did not agree with a proposed fee increase;
  • A 1.5% increase for providers of adult social care;
  • Five extra fee bands have been added to the fee structure for care home providers "to reduce some unintended 'cliff edge' effects" where previously a provider would have had to pay a much larger fee simply by adding one extra bed to a care home. The additional bands are intended to address this issue;
  • Dental providers operating out of a single location will now be measured by the number of dental chairs they have in their practice "to better distinguish between smaller and larger services." Whilst annual fees for dental service providers have not seen a percentage increase as with health and social care providers, this change will mean that some larger single location practices will still see a fee increase.

CQC will carry out another public consultation on the registration fees scheme for 2015/2016 in the autumn.
