Jonathan specialises in pursing all types of recoveries including property, motor and travel on behalf of insurers and corporate clients. As head of our Commercial and Household Property Recoveries product Jonathan leads a team of over 150 lawyers who successfully pursue claims across a number of causes of action arising from perils including impact, fire, escape of water, subsidence and accidental damage.

Jonathan was also formerly our national Head of Costs and has expertise in both challenging and recoveries legal costs. This includes expert knowledge of the assessment process (detailed or provisional), CCFAs, costs pleadings (Points of Dispute, Replies, Part 18), fixed costs disputes, Part 8, costs budgeting and case management, advocacy and costs appeals.

Jonathan is well known for his expertise in management, leadership and operational excellence. He has studied for a diploma in business management at Warwick Business School and applied his learning into delivering improvements for his clients to deliver high performance in recovery returns at minimum lifecycle and offer costs effective pricing mechanisms.

Relevant experience includes:

• Leading a team that delivers market leading results - recovering over £38m in property recoveries over the last 18 months with an average recovery ration of 80% and cycle time of just 373 days.
• Operational excellence and working in partnership with clients to improve the end to end recovery process. The market average for property recoveries, following MPCI benchmarking in 2015, was 3.2% (recovered amount as a percentage of indemnity spend). Jonathan’s teams recover between 6% – 8% for our clients.
• Managing a large team of 150 lawyers across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland delivering volume and value recovery solutions across a range of clients.
• Leading a high performing costs team where we were successful in 2 Court of Appeal decisions of Lowin and Catalano resulting in market changes and reducing our client’s indemnity spend.
