Who are we?

We are recognised by our clients as being the market leaders in specialist claims such as abuse, failure to remove and protect, police, failure to educate, DPA, HRA, stress, Equality Act and harassment. We provide coverage across a broad spectrum of markets including local authorities, health, care homes, leisure providers and schools.

We act for clients including RSA, MMI, Zurich, Gallagher Bassett, QBE, Hiscox and Travelers, as well as local authorities and other organisations across the private, public and voluntary sectors. Our expertise is recognised by insurers and insureds alike. This is supported by the fact that we are instructed by clients direct where they have no insurance, our instructions are national and we are often asked to comment on policies and procedures and provide “blue sky thinking” on legal developments.

How can we help you?

We add value for clients by also offering bespoke training and advising in relation to media interest, speaking at conferences and producing briefing notes on issues such as vicarious liability which is a feature of many of our claims. As a consequence of the expertise throughout the firm we are able to offer a dedicated and experienced team. Cases are handled directly by senior lawyers with appropriate paralegal and junior lawyer input. Duplication of work is avoided.

We have acted in a number of ground breaking cases including: A House of Lords case heard with A v Hoare which saw a change in the law on limitation, the Court of Appeal case of Dunn v Durham County Council relating to disclosure of confidential records and X & Y v Hounslow LB, a Court of Appeal decision which made it more difficult to sue adult social workers.

Where appropriate, our intelligence and Fraud teams can be deployed to ensure that all open source material is obtained in order to drive a claim to a conclusion. We also have the support of a first class team of specialist costs lawyers who are able to effectively challenge costs claims at budgetary, interlocutory applications and detailed assessment. We have developed a recovery product drawing on all the expertise of the Specialist Liability Team, Intelligence and Recoveries to trace and asset check perpetrators and, where appropriate, recover all or part of client’s compensation payment arising from abuse perpetrated by a former or current employee.
