Simon is a healthcare regulatory lawyer based in our London office who works with providers and commissioners across the healthcare sector with a special interest in mental health and capacity law. He has experience in bringing and defending judicial reviews, advising upon policies, CQC/HIW/HSE issues and representing providers on appeals to the Tribunal. He regularly represents providers and commissioners in the Court of protection and has considerable experience in the Coroners Court, representing interested persons from care home operators to providers of community, acute inpatient, prison and mental health care.
Simon's experience includes:
Successfully defending a mental health trust in habeas corpus proceedings at both first instance and in the Court of Appeal;
Successfully defending a mental health trust in judicial review proceedings concerning the payment of inpatient pocket money with cost saving ramifications for the wider NHS estate;
Representing trusts and private providers at high profile multi-party Article 2 jury inquests;
Advising and representing hospital trusts, commissioners and providers on serious medical treatment, welfare and deprivation of liberty cases in the Court of Protection.
