Rachel Cropper-Mawer is a dispute resolution and compliance Partner in our London Minster Court office. She specialises in commercial litigation, arbitration and investigations, as well as compliance advisory work relating to anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, tax evasion and sanctions across a wide range of sectors and often involving international companies.
Rachel has experience of arbitrating and litigating complex commercial matters relating to commodities, insurance, financial services, transportation and oil and gas sectors. She has worked on a variety of cases including breach of contract, shareholder and director disputes, fraud and investigations, and has successfully applied for and defended against injunctions.
Rachel's work has also involved dealing with compliance and regulatory issues in multiple jurisdictions both representing clients and, during her time in-house where she was employed by large corporates to manage their compliance and reputational risks. Rachel is particularly focused on fraud, AML and Anti-Corruption, having also worked closely with the SFO on behalf of clients on implementation and application of the Bribery Act 2010 and she has developed and implemented compliance programmes for companies seeking investment or looking to List, as well as advising on an ad hoc basis in relation to compliance programme development and new legislation such as the Criminal Finances Act 2017.
Rachel's in-house experience in senior management and leadership roles in an Oil Major and a top three global insurance brokerage gives her a unique insight into what clients want. She has had secondments to the FCA Enforcement Team and a reinsurance company in Germany.
Prior to her legal career, Rachel spent some time in the British Army, notably seconded to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders as Assistant Adjutant and Head of Media Ops during their time in Bosnia in the late 1990s. Rachel is a regular speaker at C5 and PLC events.
