Nick is a Barrister in our specialist advocacy service, 8 DAC Beachcroft Buildings (8DB).
Nick’s practice is split between three complementary strands: personal injury, costs and employment.
In the personal injury sphere Nick acts for defendants in the range of cases spanning motor injury, casualty, disease and complex injuries. Within these fields he has a wide range of experience, from the earliest stage of cases where he is frequently instructed to advise or draft statements of case, to interim hearings, through to trials on both the fast and multi-track.
Nick has a particular interest in complex or technical procedural issues that arise in such cases, especially when they have a costs flavour. He regularly attends CCMCs on complex, high value cases as well as heavily contested applications, both in the County Court and High Court.
In the costs arena Nick deals with costs disputes arising during the lifetime of the litigation, as well as heavy and complex detailed and provisional assessments. He has attended both assessment and interim costs hearings in the County Court and the SCCO, frequently on cases involving large bills and multi-million pound, complex litigation.
Nick’s employment practice focusses primarily on Tribunal work, generally acting for respondents in the full range of claims, from straightforward unfair dismissal and deduction from wages claims, to multi-day, complex discrimination and whistleblowing cases, as well as everything in between. His interest in procedural and costs disputes means he is well-placed to attend hearings dealing with strike out, deposit orders and costs.
Nick is a member of Middle Temple as well as PIBA and ELBA. He also has a role as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Law, where he teaches dispute resolution, personal injury and employment courses among others. Away from the law Nick is a keen Francophile, having taken a sabbatical to improve his French in the South of France, and (not coincidentally) is something of a wine enthusiast, and is currently working in the process of obtaining his WSET wine qualifications.
Nick is regulated by the Bar Standards Board (BSB) and holds a current practising certificate. If you are not satisfied with the service provided, please contact BSB.
