Matthew was educated at the University of Sydney. Matthew worked for Abbott Tout Russell Kennedy in Sydney after qualification in 1987 then Curwood & Partners.
In 1992, he moved to England and joined C A Norris in Ringwood. In 1994, he joined Wessex Legal Services, which was taken over by Wansbroughs in Winchester. He was made a partner in the firm in 1997.
Matthew specialises in all aspects of clinical negligence, and has a national reputation for managing high value obstetric claims on behalf of NHS Resolution (formerly the NHS Litigation Authority) for NHS Trusts. He successfully defended the case of Cooke v UBHT in the Court of Appeal. He is the firm's client partner to NHS Resolution (formerly the NHS Litigation Authority) and heads up the firm's clinical risk cluster nationally.
