Mark Healing's Expertise

Mark Healing

Mark is an insurance dispute resolution lawyer in our London office. He specialises in the coverage and defence of complex, high value claims against a range of professionals, including accountants, actuaries, barristers, brokers, D&O, IFAs, solicitors and surveyors.

Mark often advises in claims featuring allegations of fraud or dishonesty, a number of which have required expert IT forensic evidence, and is also experienced in securing interim relief including mandatory injunctions, security for costs, summary judgment and strike-out.

Mark also has hands-on experience of the London Market, having spent six months on secondment at a leading London Market insurer and reinsurer.

Reported decisions include:

  • Galazi and another v Christoforou and others [2019] EWHC 670 (Ch), on whether amendments to the Claimants’ Particulars of Claim amounted to a whole or partial discontinuance, and the costs consequences where the discontinued claims had featured serious allegations of dishonesty.
  • Woodford and Hillman v AIG Europe Ltd [2018] EWHC 358 (QB), a coverage dispute in which the High Court in London was tasked with interpreting a D&O policy under German law.
  • Healey v Shoosmiths [2016] EWHC 1723, concerning the scope of a solicitor's duty to advise a sophisticated client in a superyacht transaction, in which Mark gave evidence on his clients' behalves at trial.
  • Lewis and others v Ward Hadaway [2015] EWHC 3503 (Ch) – a multi-claim summary judgment application which at the time was the leading case on limitation in the context of court fee abuse.

Mark is recommended by his clients in the 2018 Legal 500.
