Kylie Bates is an insurance litigation lawyer in our Auckland office. She specialises in the defence of professional indemnity claims and has acted for international and local insurers in general civil litigation, coverage disputes, disciplinary proceedings, and coronial inquests. Kylie has particular expertise in claims against professionals in the fields of construction and healthcare.
Kylie’s recent experience includes:
representing an engineer in High Court proceedings concerning failed remediation works following the Canterbury earthquakes;
acting in recovery proceedings concerning a helicopter crash; and
defending an insurance broker against allegations of negligence arising from the under-insurance of property damaged in the Canterbury earthquakes.
Prior to joining DAC Beachcroft, Kylie acted for the certifying authority of a high-rise apartment building which was the site of a high-profile, fatal fire. Kylie defended the certifying authority in two sets of civil proceedings issued in the Supreme Court of New South Wales as well as lengthy disciplinary proceedings and a coronial inquest and inquiry.
Kylie qualified in 2007 and joined DAC Beachcroft in early 2016.
