Katie da Gama has over 15 years of experience in insurance defence work, with a particular focus on professional indemnity.
Katie’s expertise covers the defence of a wide range of professionals and institutions including solicitors, architects, financial advisers, insurance brokers, accountants, IT professionals and regulated entities.
Her career has spanned both working in London and Dublin, which has given her an insight into understanding the needs of UK insurers, and the practice and procedure of the Irish legal system. This allows Katie to provide advice to UK insurers, which is both practical and commercial, but also balanced to ensure the right result is achieved as swiftly and efficiently as possible.
As an experienced insurance practitioner Katie has significant experience of advising insurers on coverage matters, including policy wording interpretation and coverage disputes (both at arbitration and through the local courts). During recent years Katie has been involved in a number of complex coverage matters for insurers, dealing with issues of excess layers and round the clock reinstatements.
Katie is a keen advocate of alternative dispute resolution, and in 2015 she was appointed to sit on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Law Society. She is keen to promote the benefits of alternative dispute resolution and frequently advises clients and represents them at mediation.
