Gill is a partner in our Healthcare Regulatory team. She has been providing specialist healthcare advice to a wide range of NHS bodies and healthcare professionals since 2000. She has particular expertise in the areas of mental health law, capacity and consent, patient confidentiality, inquests, clinical governance and patient safety.

She has extensive experience of advising both acute and mental health trusts on complex issues of capacity and consent to treatment, including the implications of and overlap between the MCA and MHA jurisdictions. She has represented acute and mental health providers in high profile Court of Protection and High Court declaratory proceedings.

Also, Gill has a detailed knowledge of mental health law, and has advised mental health trusts in the context of SUI’s, public enquiries, and complex MHRT proceedings - in addition to the general provisions and difficulties associated with the complex and rapidly changing mental health law framework.

She also has a particular interest in patient confidentiality, with expertise in the obligations imposed by the common law duty of confidentiality, the DPA, the FOIA and professional obligations.

Gill has also represented trusts in a wide range of inquests, including prison deaths and other jury inquests.

Gill has delivered training throughout her professional career to a wide range of healthcare professionals on issues such as mental health law, capacity and consent, data protection, inquests and child protection. She also lectures on the Mental Health and Medical Law LLM courses at Northumbria University.
