Gill Burnett

Gill is a Legal Director working across the Northern practice.  She acts for London market insurers in defending claims brought against a range of professionals to include, in particular, accountants, tax advisors and solicitors.  Gill also advises insurers on policy issues and has undertaken secondments with two London market insurers.

Examples of Gill's work includes:

  • Acting on the successful appeal to the Court of Appeal on a £3million claim relating to allegedly negligent preparation of a net asset statement (Hit Finance v Cohen Arnold & Co);
  • Acting in respect of alleged failure in audit of a University College relating to fraud of bursar of College;
  • Acting in defence of a claim against accountant in respect of allegedly negligent advice in respect of offshore tax shelter;
  • Acting in defence of a claim against auditor of PLC for the failure to uncover fraud of director;
  • Acting in the defence of claim by a leading musician against former bank members and their accountants relating to royalty payments;
  • Acting in defence of a claim against accountants in respect of allegedly negligent preparation of partnership accounts resulting in HMRC investigation.
