Chris Doran has considerable experience in all forms of construction, engineering and general contractual and tortious disputes in the High Court (Technology and Construction Court), arbitration (both domestic and international), adjudication and mediation including:
Final account claims;
Programming disputes and claims for LADs and for loss and expense;
Contractor’s and professional’s claims for variations/additional fees;
Defective performance of building contracts, including claims for defective design and construction;
Professional negligence claims against project professionals, including architects, project managers, quantity surveyors and engineers;
Fire and flooding claims;
Performance bond claims;
Power station disputes.
Chris also has considerable experience of professional indemnity litigation involving architects, project manager/employer’s agents, quantity surveyors and engineers.
Chris regularly works with employers and project professionals during complex projects and provides risk management advice to those professionals during ongoing projects.
Recent cases include acting for a contractor on a US$80m international arbitration arising out of an international infrastructure project, defending a design and build contractor in a £200 million multi-party claim arising out of the design and construction of a large industrial warehouse, defending an engineer in connection with an €8 million claim arising from a new sports stadium, and acting for a housing association in multi-million pound claim against its design and build contractors.
Clients have included insurance companies, health authorities and NHS Foundation Trusts, employers, contractors and construction professionals. Chris has advised on all types of projects including hospital projects, power projects and the construction of airports and other infrastructure, and has experience of all of the major standard forms of contract, including the JCT Standard Forms of Contract, the DOM Form of sub-contract, the FIDIC contract and standard forms of appointment for project professionals as well as bespoke contracts.
