Andrew Johnston provides advice on a wide range of commercial and contractual issues for clients in the health sector. This includes advising NHS England, CCGs, NHS Trusts and Foundation Trusts, GP practices, local authorities and independent sector health providers.
Andrew is day to day lead on major commercial projects, providing strategic advice, acting as the main point of contact and bringing together input from our employment, real estate, regulatory and other specialists.
Examples of Andrew’s recent work include:
Advising a Foundation Trust on its arrangements for the delivery of all cardiology services within a commissioner’s patch;
Acting as a prime-contractor in respect of some services and fulfilling a contract manager function in respect of others;
Supporting a Foundation Trust client with the commercial arrangements relating to the establishment of radiotherapy facilities at the sites of other NHS providers;
Advising an NHS Trust on the complex procurement of a new private patient unit.
One of Andrew's areas of specialism is R&D contracts. He advises clients on their clinical research agreements, including agreements for biomedical research centre funding, and agreements to establish and operate joint clinical trials units. He has also provided advice to the Health Research Authority (previously the National Institute for Health Research) on a number of its model research contracts.
