International law firm DAC Beachcroft has assisted client EMIS Health, a Leeds based, AIM-listed supplier of healthcare software, information technology and related services in the UK, providing advice in connection to its appointment to NHS Digital’s GP IT Futures programme and framework agreement. EMIS Health is a UK leader in supplying clinical systems used by GPs.
The GP IT Futures programme is a critical enabler for taking primary care towards the requirements set out in the NHS Long Term Plan, and replaces the GP System of Choice programme. EMIS Health now has the opportunity to support the GP IT market in transforming patient care in general practice.
The appointment to the NHS GP IT Futures framework will allow EMIS Health products and services to be placed on the NHS Digital Care Services Catalogue, pending approval – and from there be sold to primary care organisations.
DAC Beachcroft advised on the framework terms, working closely with EMIS Health’s in-house legal team.
DAC Beachcroft’s lead on the deal, Legal Director Andrew Rankin, is an expert in advising on IT transactions in the UK healthcare sector. On EMIS Health’s reappointment, he said, “We are proud to have been involved in such a business-critical appointment for EMIS Health.
“This deal underlines the capabilities of our team, our technology law practice and our experience advising on healthcare technology transactions, where we are a market leader.”
Andy Thorburn, EMIS Group’s CEO, said, “We are pleased to have been awarded a place on the new GP IT Futures framework. We are now focused on completing the Catalogue approval process, which should allow EMIS Health to continue providing joined-up technology to the NHS market for years to come, while positioning the Group positively for the future with potential growth opportunities for both EMIS Web and the broader EMIS Group portfolio."
Andrew was supported by Chris Air and Harald Loeffler, drawing on experience from the firm’s Manchester office.
DAC Beachcroft boasts a 50-strong national team of specialist technology lawyers.
