David Weatherburn has once again been re-elected as Head of DAC Beachcroft’s Newcastle office in Wellbar Central on Gallowgate. He has been Location Head since the firm established an office in Newcastle in 2008 and will begin his new term on 1 May 2019.
In addition to serving as Location Head, Weatherburn is an elected member of DAC Beachcroft’s LLP board and a member of DAC Beachcroft Scotland LLP. He also heads up the firm’s Medical Malpractice group and is ranked as a leading individual by both Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500.
Under Weatherburn’s leadership, DAC Beachcroft's Newcastle office has grown exponentially over the last decade, from just 30 colleagues across two practice areas in late 2008 to nearly 200 colleagues working in eight practice areas now.
Weatherburn, commenting on his re-appointment, said, “It is an honour to be chosen to head up the Newcastle office again. The last decade has seen our firm go from strength to strength in the North East. Not only have we grown, we have also built up a superb client roster – with a few exceptions, we have a least one strand of business with most scalable legal services users in the North East, including every arm of the public sector in Newcastle. Our lawyers also act in specialist niches across the UK and internationally. I am looking forward to working closely with the team here over my next term to continue our growth trajectory and making further investments in developing and recruiting local talent.”
DAC Beachcroft’s Senior Partner Virginia Clegg added, “David is one of our longest-serving Location Heads and has done an exceptional job in the role since taking up the post. I am very pleased that he has put himself forward for a further term, and I look forward to working more with him to continue building our presence and capabilities in Newcastle.”
The growth of DAC Beachcroft’s Newcastle office comes as the international firm has delivered consistently strong financial performances in recent years, increasing its turnover by 11% to £230 million last year and growing its profit per member by 23 per cent. The firm is also expanding both internationally and domestically, having launched a new office in Paris in January 2019 and having announced plans to open in Belfast in July 2019.
