A multi-disciplinary team from DAC Beachcroft’s Manchester and Newcastle offices has completed a two year long project in support of King's School, Macclesfield.
The development, valued at circa £60m, is the most ambitious in King's School's 500 year history and is seen as being one of the largest educational (pre-university) projects in the country.
The school, one of the oldest independent schools in the country, wanted to move to a single site in Prestbury. The DAC Beachcroft team helped secure planning permission for this and also for the existing land to be used for residential development. Subsequently, we advised on the sale of the land to four developers, to create 450 new homes and also on the purchase of the new site and the development of state of the art building due to open in 2020.
Leanne Murray acted as Client Relationship lead and also led the Real Estate team. Andrew Clare was responsible for the banking and finance aspects for development funding. Roddy Gordon and his Construction team advised on the build contract and related issues.
Leanne Murray, Legal Director and Client Relationship lead, commented: "This is a landmark development in the UK educational sector, and we were able to demonstrate DAC Beachcroft’s breadth of expertise by advising from beginning to end – on real estate, banking and finance and construction issues.”
