The Mental Health Journey Claims Forum
DAC Beachcroft and NHS Resolution will be hosting an interactive session directed at Legal Services Managers and Risk Managers within Acute and Mental Health Trusts but also importantly to Mental Health Unit Leads, Consultant Psychiatrists, Mental Health Practitioners, Nursing representatives, Patient Safety Leads and Community Mental Health Teams. We would be grateful if you could pass this invite on to the relevant person(s) in your organisation.
Dr Alice Oates, Clinical Fellow in Mental Health, will provide detailed background to her thematic review of NHS Resolution data regarding suicide inquests and non-fatal attempted suicide claims, her views on progress, together with an opportunity to provide feedback and seek guidance.
The Forum will focus on the Mental Health journey and how the system interacts through a case study touching on primary, acute and social care. This will form the basis of an interactive discussion in which delegates can raise issues relating to challenges, processes and best practice.
There will also be a session on the support structure required, and in place, for Trust employees who are involved in the Inquest process. Interactive discussion will be inspired by anecdotal experiences from Trust members who have recently been a part of the Inquest process.
The session will conclude with a brief legal update focussing on the interaction between mental capacity and the Mental Health Act in the different care provider settings.
