NHS Charges: Increase for accidents from 1 April 2020

Published 21 February 2020

The amount compensators are required to pay to the Compensation Recovery Unit in relation to treatment provided to injured Claimants has been increased for injuries suffered on or after 1 April 2020, as follows:

Accidents/Injuries up to 31/3/2020

Accidents/Injuries from 1/4/2020

Out-patient
treatment

£725

£743

In-patient treatment
(per day)

£891

£913

Ambulance journey
(per journey)

£219

£224

The cap on total recoverable NHS Charges will increase from £53,278 to £54,566.

Although each individual increase is not significant, insurers will need to ensure that their reserves for accidents which occur on or after 1 April 2020 reflect the increased level of charges.
