As a consequence of the Government of Ireland’s COVID-19 public health guidelines, and with a view to allowing businesses and advisers concentrate on other challenges, the Companies Registration Office (“CRO”) has announced that all annual returns due to be filed by Irish companies up until the end of 30 June 2020 will be deemed to have been filed on time if the annual return is duly completed and filed by that date. This is a welcome reprieve for companies whose annual return dates are coming up in the near future. The CRO has said that it may extend the grace period as the situation develops.
The CRO’s public office in Dublin has been closed since 12 March 2020. On 30 March 2020, the CRO announced that it would not be in a position to process submissions or answer queries due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the CRO was not accepting post between 30 March 2020 and 1 April 2020 but it has since announced that it will resume receiving post from 2 April 2020 (Dublin office) and from 6 April 2020 (Carlow office) and that all post will be date stamped on receipt and stored for processing when the office reopens.
