Keurboom Communications has just been fined a record £400,000 by the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) for making a staggering 100m nuisance calls about road accident claims and PPI compensation, which generated over a 1,000 complaints. The Digital Economy Act, which received Royal Assent on 27 April 2017, will enable the ICO to hold directors personally responsible for such fines. With the ICO fining 23 companies a total of £1.9m for nuisance calls in 2016/17, this new Act is likely to increase directors’ exposure significantly.
