DAC Beachcroft's Counter Fraud Team scoop top award at Post Insurance Fraud Awards
Published 2 November 2015
Our Counter Fraud Team was named Fraud Investigation Team of the Year (Independent) at the 2015 Post Insurance Fraud Awards, the insurance industry's most prestigious fraud awards ceremony.
Despite being shortlisted five years in a row, a winning award has always escaped the team.
Catherine Burt, National Head of Counter Fraud said: "This is a fantastic achievement and I'm so proud of the team.
"In previous years, we've had really strong entries, and just being shortlisted for one of these coveted awards is seen as a major achievement in the industry. It is almost unheard of for a defendant law firm to win one.
Others shortlisted in this category included Cunningham Lindsey, I-COG Claims Management and The Brownsword Group, who were Highly Commended in this category.
Investigation Team of the Year
The team's submission focused on its work in providing the intelligence and evidence to support QBE's fraud team in managing a large fraudulent bus claim. The claim involved 37 bus passengers and four car passengers and resulted in the conviction of those who organised the fraud; focusing on a bus company employee and the third party driver. The team undertook detailed analysis and evidential work to support QBE's investigations and our legal work and the police's criminal investigation of these serious fraudsters.
The evidential work included telephone analysis and profiling of behaviours from CCTV and other data sources. The team worked really closely with the insurer and the police to ensure evidence was robustly submitted in both the civil and criminal cases.
Kate Abrahams, Head of Intelligence, commented: 'We have incredibly skilful Intelligence professionals who have worked for over four years to build a reputation that is second to none in the industry. Finally getting acknowledgement of this from our peers is a major feat and just rewards for the team'.
