Council continues to work on EU Regulation Draft
Published 27 February 2015
There have been no significant developments concerning the proposed EU Data Protection Regulation this month. The Council continue to work on their version of the draft, with a commitment by the Latvian presidency to have this finished by June 2015.
The Trialogue procedure will then begin, with optimists predicting 6 months to agree on the text and pessimists a further two years.
Latest predictions are a finalisation of the text by March 2016 and implementation by March 2018.
What action could be taken to manage risks that may arise from this development?
At the ICO Conference on 2 March, the ICO re-iterated its opinion that compliance with best practice now will go a long way to compliance with the new Regulation.
