The key development to be aware of is the ICO's new guidance on when an organisation is a data processor. The ICO's position on this has changed significantly under the new guidance: it is now much harder to be a data processor. You can take the ICO's quiz on data processors here to check your knowledge. There is also some new ICO guidance on how to avoid IT breaches.
Concerns about Safe Harbor continue – it is worth checking the certificates of any US contractors you use.
