Perhaps the biggest development this month is that from 1 October employment tribunals are required to order organisations to carry out equal pay audits, and publish the results on their website for 3 years, if they lose a gender pay claim which has been brought on or after 1 October 2014. While there are some exceptions to this, the introduction of compulsory equal pay audits is a drastic way of trying to bridge the gender pay gap, a problem which successive governments have been trying to solve for almost 45 years.
