The Hire Way - Special edition: Credit Hire Fraud in the headlines - April 2014
Published 1 April 2014
Welcome to this special edition of the "Hire Way", DAC Beachcroft's credit hire newsletter.
The last two weeks have been landmarks in the battle against Credit Hire fraud, with the Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department ("IFED") making 17 arrests following a series of nationwide dawn raids on 26 March 2014. The arrests have attracted national attention, significantly raising awareness of this continuing problem.
Then, on 30 March 2014, DAC Beachcroft's Head of Motor, Craig Dickson, was a guest on BBC Radio 5Live's "investigates" programme, highlighting some of the tactics and trends emerging from the credit hire fraud arena. If you missed it, you can hear the programme at BBC's iPlayer here.
DAC Beachcroft has the industry's only dedicated credit hire fraud UK legal team and publishes market analysis in the form of its Credit Hire Fraud Reports, periodically. You can view our 2013 Credit Hire fraud report "Combatting Credit Hire Fraud in a Changeable Climate" here.
Craig says, "I am pleased that it is no longer just us and the insurers that we work with that are highlighting the problem of Credit Hire fraud. The profile that IFED's great work last week, together with the BBC's recognition that this is a topic that should be of wider public interest, will hopefully continue the momentum gathering towards stamping out this criminal activity once and for all".
