Business Immigration Alert – April 2014 - CORRECTION

Published 8 April 2014

We reported incorrectly earlier today that the maximum civil penalty for employing someone who does not have the right to work increased to £20,000 from £10,000. This was widely expected to come in on 6 April 2014 but has been delayed. We understand that the increased penalty is likely to take effect in early May 2014 following the Queen's Speech. This change is part of the Government's broader initiative to prevent illegal working in which it wants employers to play their part. We will report on its progress and the changes to be brought in by the Immigration Bill as soon as further news emerges.
